Putting God First in the New Year: A Guide to Starting Fresh

by Jan 4, 2025Blog0 comments

The start of a new year is like a blank canvas, filled with possibilities and opportunities to grow. For many women, it’s a time to reassess priorities and set goals. As a Christian feminine coach, I want to remind you of the most transformative resolution you can make this year: putting God first.

Why Putting God First Changes Everything

When God is at the center of your life, everything else falls into place. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” This isn’t just a beautiful verse; it’s a promise. Prioritizing your relationship with God brings clarity, peace, and purpose to every area of your life.

Reflect on the Past Year

Before you plan for the year ahead, take a moment to reflect. What challenges did you face? How did you grow? Where did you rely on God, and where did you try to go it alone? Be honest with yourself. Reflection is an act of humility and a way to acknowledge God’s hand in your journey.

Ways to Put God First in the New Year

1. Start Each Day with Him

Mornings set the tone for the day. Dedicate the first moments of your day to prayer, Bible study, or worship. Even five minutes of intentional time with God can recalibrate your heart and mind.

2. Set God-Centered Goals

Instead of focusing solely on personal achievements, ask God to guide your goals. Pray over your plans and be open to His leading. Your ambitions will feel more meaningful when they align with His purpose for your life.

3. Immerse Yourself in the Word

Scripture is a wellspring of wisdom and encouragement. Make it a habit to read the Bible daily or join a Bible study group. God’s Word will provide the strength and guidance you need to navigate the year ahead.

4. Trust Him in Every Season

Life is unpredictable, but God’s faithfulness is constant. Whether you face triumphs or trials this year, choose to trust Him. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us to bring everything to God in prayer and experience His peace.

5. Live Out Your Faith

Putting God first isn’t just about private devotion; it’s about living in a way that reflects His love. Be a light in your community, serve others, and let your actions testify to God’s goodness.

Let’s Make This Year Different

As women, we wear many hats—daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend. It’s easy to feel stretched thin. But when God is your foundation, you’ll find the strength and grace to fulfill your roles without losing yourself.

This year, let’s commit to growing spiritually, embracing our feminine hearts, and becoming the women God created us to be. When you put God first, everything else—family, career, relationships—will flourish in His perfect timing.

A Prayer for the New Year

Heavenly Father, as we step into this new year, we surrender our plans, dreams, and challenges to You. Help us to seek You first in all we do. Guide us, shape us, and use us for Your glory. May this year be one of spiritual growth, peace, and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let this year be the one where you truly embrace the power of putting God first. You won’t just see changes in your life—you’ll experience a transformation in your heart.
